From Medieval Roots to Modern Kitchens: The Story of Carrot Cake
In ancient times, sugar was a luxury that was affordable only to the rich and affluent. Thus, historians say that due to the natural sweets of carrots, it was used many a times to make cakes and other desserts.
Carrot cake also gained popularity during World War II when sugar and other ingredients were rationed, making carrots a practical substitute for sweeteners in baked goods. The cake's rise in popularity was partly due to its inclusion in wartime cookbooks and its affordability.
After the war, carrot cake continued to be loved for its moist texture and unique flavor, eventually becoming a classic dessert.
