Evolution of Cameras

Camera Obscura (5th Century BC - 16th Century)

It started with the Camera Obscura, a dark room with a tiny hole that projected an inverted image onto a surface. Initially used to observe solar phenomena, it later helped artists perfect perspective in their work.

The First Photograph (1826)

In 1826, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce captured the first permanent photograph using heliography. It took hours of exposure to produce View from the Window at Le Gras, but it changed history forever.

The Daguerreotype (1839)

Louis Daguerre refined photography with the daguerreotype, offering clearer images and shorter exposure times. For the first time, ordinary people could preserve their portraits.

The Kodak Revolution (1888)

George Eastman made photography simple with the Kodak roll-film camera. His slogan, “You press the button, we do the rest,” brought photography to the masses.

Instant Photography (1948)

Polaroid introduced instant cameras in 1948, allowing people to snap and print photos in minutes. Instant photography quickly became a cultural icon.

Digital Cameras (1975 – Present)

The first digital camera was built by Steve Sasson in 1975, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that digital photography became mainstream. Today, we capture high-resolution photos with devices in our pockets, making photography part of everyday life.

From room-sized devices to smartphones, the camera’s journey continues, helping us freeze time and relive our most treasured moments.
